If my player skated on Squirt A or AA last season, do they need to try out again for Squirt A this season?
Yes. All players wishing to play at the Squirt A or AA level must participate in tryouts each season. Placement from the previous year does not guarantee placement this season. In some years, players from Squirt B have advanced ahead of players who skated on Squirt A the previous season.
If my player skated on Rochester Squirt B last season and wants to play Squirt B again, do they need to try out?
No. Players who skated on Rochester Squirt B last season and wish to return to Squirt B do not need to participate in Squirt B tryouts. They will be placed on a Squirt B team and contacted by their coach after tryouts have concluded.
If my player skated on Squirt C last season, what are their options?
Players have three options:
- Return to Squirt C (no tryout required)
- Try out for Squirt B
- Try out for Squirt A
Can players from Squirt Development Groups 3, 4, and 5 participate in the Squirt A tryout?
Yes. However, families should use good judgment when deciding whether to participate. If you are unsure, we recommend speaking with your player's Squirt Development coach for guidance.
We do not recommend participating in the tryout solely for the experience. Instead, players should attend if their skill level is reasonably comparable to the players expected in the tryout group. Being significantly outmatched can make the experience difficult and discouraging. We encourage families to carefully consider which level is the best fit for their player.
