Mite Hockey

2026-2027 Mite Hockey Season

NOTE: Head coaches will be reaching out to Termite players in late-September, and Supermite players in October.

Termites

Our Termite season begins with a visit to OMC Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance, where players tour the facility and receive their jerseys. Throughout the season, Termites visit OMC approximately once a month for basic dryland training or Hockey Room sessions on synthetic ice. OMC provides excellent instruction and supervision while helping our youngest players build fundamental athletic skills.

On-ice sessions are typically held on Saturdays for one hour, with start times scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. During these sessions, players focus on basic hockey skills through age-appropriate drills and fun, engaging games.

In addition, approximately every third week, players participate in one hour of Cross-Ice Games (mini hockey games), which are typically held on Sundays at various times throughout the day.

For more information on player development, please refer to our Mite Hockey Skills Guidelines.

Supermites

Our Supermite program is designed to build on the fundamentals learned in the Termite program while helping players develop a lifelong love for hockey. The emphasis remains on having fun, developing well-rounded athletes, and introducing game play that more closely resembles traditional hockey. The season typically begins with introductory sessions at OMC Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance before transitioning to regular on-ice practices.

Whenever possible, players are grouped with teammates from their school.

A typical season includes a combination of on-ice practices, miniboard games, cross-ice games, full-ice games, OMC Hockey Room sessions on synthetic ice, OMC dryland training, and an Outdoor Hockey Day.

During on-ice sessions, coaches group players by skill level to create balanced competition and maximize player development. Players are divided into ability-based groups during practice stations, miniboard games, and cross-ice games, allowing each player to develop at an appropriate pace while building confidence and having fun.

Rovers

The Rover program is designed for Supermite-aged players who demonstrate advanced hockey skills, a strong desire to compete, and the ability to benefit from additional ice time. Players may participate in the Advanced Supermite Evaluation for the opportunity to be selected to one of the Rover teams. Team placement is based on player evaluations, with every effort made to create balanced teams while recognizing that players at this age develop rapidly throughout the season.

Following the evaluation, there may be an opportunity for a small number of additional Supermite players to join a Rover team later in the season as their skills develop. Players who have already been placed at the Squirt level do not participate in the Advanced Supermite Evaluation.

In limited circumstances, a small number of Rover-eligible players may be invited to participate in Squirt B tryouts following the Advanced Supermite Evaluation. Players must successfully earn a spot on a Squirt B team in order to compete at the Squirt level.

The majority of Supermite-aged players will participate in either the Supermite or Rover program, with only a limited number advancing to Squirt B through the evaluation process.

The Rover schedule includes additional practices and full-ice games to provide increased development opportunities and a higher level of competition. Full-ice games are officiated and typically include matchups against other Rover teams and Squirt C teams. An additional program fee applies to help cover the cost of the extra ice time and officials.

Cross-Ice Games

Cross-ice games remain an important part of player development for all Mite-level skaters. These small-area scrimmages maximize puck touches, player engagement, and decision-making in a fun, fast-paced environment. Cross-ice games are scheduled regularly throughout the season, with Supermites typically participating during midweek sessions and Termites participating approximately once per month on Sunday mornings.

Girls City League (GCL):

Girls City League program combines our girls Supermite (8U) players and some 10U girls that may be new to hockey or not quite ready for traveling hockey yet. The format of the schedule and development is very similar to our Supermite program. They skate on Saturdays and Sundays, and every once in a while have another ice session sprinkled in during the week. Tuesday evenings they attend training sessions at OMC Sports Medical & Athletic Performance (SMAP) facility.
